The Department of Turkish Language and Literature was established in 1982 under Law No. 2547 and Decree Law No. 41 issued based on this law, affiliated with the Faculty of Science and Literature. Today, the Department offers undergraduate and graduate education and teaching in the fields of “Modern Turkish Literature,” “Classical Turkish Literature,” “Modern Turkish Language,” “Classical Turkish Language,” “Turkish Folk Literature,” and “Contemporary Turkish Dialects and Literatures” It continues to provide undergraduate and graduate education and teaching, as well as conducting scientific research activities, with a staff of 5 Professors, 8 Associate Professors, and 2 Research Assistants.
The aim of our department is to research and examine the written and oral products in the field of Turkish Language and Literature, which are fundamental elements of Turkish culture, from the past to the present; to share the information obtained with society; to play a decisive and effective role in relations with other cultures; and to train competent Turkologists in the field. Furthermore, it aims to maintain the academic strength and competence of the Department of Turkish Language and Literature and to become one of the most important centers of Turkology in the coming period.
The Turkish Language and Literature program lasts 4 years, and the eligibility requirement for the program is a minimum general academic grade point average of 60 out of 100 (2.00 out of 4.00) and a total of 240 ECTS credits at the end of eight semesters.
Graduates can become research assistants at universities; teachers at public and private schools by obtaining a pedagogical training certificate; and work at the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Turkish Language Institution, etc.
