Prof. Dr. Celal Tarakçı, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Özbalcı, Prof. Dr. Yavuz Demir, Prof. Dr. Şaban Sağlık, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dursun Ali Tökel are among the faculty members who have contributed to the department. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Robert Vivian, a faculty member of the Vermont College of Fine Arts, taught in the department for a period of time. Degree Awarded
Students who complete the program by fulfilling all requirements receive a bachelor's degree in Turkish Language and Literature and earn the title of Turkologist.
Admission and Registration Requirements
Students are admitted to the program based on their score ranking within the quota determined by the Measurement, Selection, and Placement Center (ÖSYM).
Registration conditions are determined within the scope of Ondokuz Mayıs University Education, Teaching, and Examination Regulations.
Rules Regarding the Recognition of Prior Learning (formal, informal, non-formal)
A foreign language exemption exam is held at the beginning of the first semester for students who are new to the program. Students who pass the exam are exempt from foreign language courses offered in the first and second semesters.
Students currently enrolled at other universities may transfer to the Turkish Language and Literature Department at Ondokuz Mayıs University after completing their first semester. If the courses taken by the student in their previous education are equivalent to the courses offered in the program, they will be exempted from the courses they have completed.
In addition, the Ondokuz Mayis University Guidelines for Transfer Between Associate and Bachelor's Degree Programs apply to the recognition of previous studies at higher education institutions and to vertical, horizontal, and intra-university transfers.

The eligibility requirement for the program is a minimum overall academic grade point average of 60 out of 100 (2.00 out of 4.00) and a total of 240 ECTS credits at the end of eight semesters.
Program Profile
The Department of Turkish Language and Literature offers a four-year education program, including a second teaching section. The department has two professors, four associate professors, three assistant professors, and five research assistants.
In addition to compulsory courses, elective courses are also offered within the scope of the main disciplines of Contemporary Turkish Dialects and Literatures, Old Turkish Language, Old Turkish Literature, Modern Turkish Language, Modern Turkish Literature, and Turkish Folk Literature.
The program aims to research and examine written and oral works in the field of Turkish Language and Literature from past to present, share the acquired knowledge with society, play a decisive and effective role in relations with other cultures, and train competent scientists and educators in the field.
In addition to the courses offered in the program, the “Wednesday Talks” event, organized in collaboration with the Creative Writing Research and Application Center and held every Wednesday, welcomes interested individuals from all departments.
OMÜ Creative Writing Research and Application Center The regulation was published in the Official Gazette dated January 18, 2012, and entered into force. Leveraging its capacity for international collaboration, the center will open a facility in Seferihisar Sığacık under the name “The Teos International Center for Creative Writing” in partnership with Oxford, New York, and Ondokuz Mayıs University.
Employment Profiles of Graduates (with examples)
Graduates can become research assistants at universities; teachers at public and private schools by obtaining a pedagogical training certificate; or specialists and researchers at ministries and institutions such as the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Turkish Language Association, and state archives. They can also work as editors and proofreaders in print and visual media.
Transition to Higher Degree Programs
Candidates who successfully complete their undergraduate education can apply to master's and doctoral programs, provided they meet the necessary conditions.
Exams, Measurement, and Evaluation
The Ondokuz Mayıs University Education, Teaching, and Examination Regulations apply to the program. Accordingly, one midterm exam and one final exam are held in both the fall and spring semesters.
The midterm exam accounts for 40% of the final grade, and the final exam accounts for 60% of the final grade.
Graduation Requirements
Graduation requirements are a minimum overall academic grade point average of 60 out of 100 (2.00 out of 4.00) and a total of 240 ECTS credits at the end of eight semesters.
In addition, the program requires the preparation of a thesis.

Department Facilities
The department has five professors, two associate professors, seven assistant professors, and three research assistants. Compulsory and elective courses are offered in the main fields of Contemporary Turkish Dialects and Literatures, Old Turkish Language, Old Turkish Literature, Modern Turkish Language, Modern Turkish Literature, and Turkish Folk Literature.
Department courses are held in four classrooms, two of which are amphitheaters. The department has a seminar room for elective courses, master's, and doctoral courses. The department library, where department students work part-time, is called the “Literature Center” and offers over four thousand books and magazines for use by all university students.
In addition, department students can apply for the ERASMUS, FARABI, and MEVLANA programs under bilateral agreements and provided they meet the required conditions.
